One of the VOB club members Brent Beier has been diagnosed with motor neuron disease, the same disease that Joost van der Westhuizen battled against before passing away.
Brent was a VOB, WP and SA Youth player and the club is hosting a Golf Day on 3 September to assist in financing the purchasing of a motorised wheelchair for him. His family has registered #33Foundation in this regard and are also affiliating the fund to the J9 Foundation (Joost’s foundation).
Because of the speed at which this disease has hit Brent, we were given the opportunity to take the date of 3 September so that we can get the help he needs sooner rather than later. With this in mind, the club has embarked on this really tight timeframe to host this fundraiser Gold Day to show that we care and look after out own.
We will be playing an Alliance/American Scramble format and given the short period of time, we will only be giving prizes to the top three four balls (depending on the number of prizes we can have sponsored).
VOB McCaws would also like to offer individuals or companies the opportunity to brandsponsor a hole on the day at a cost of R1000 (holes 2-17) and R2500 (holes 1 and 18).
The club has taken a leap of faith that we can not only get the field filled, but also make ALL the money required to purchase a motorised wheelchair that Brent so badly requires to keep him mobile.
The campaign’s current needs are:
1. Fill the field (3 days we have more than have filled it already)
2. Get every hole sponsored (we have two holes sponsored by two club members. We need companies and/or individuals for the other 16 holes)
3. Any items that we could auction to raise more money
4. Join us on the day even if it’s just to show support for one of our VOB family when they need it most).
