Cape Town Lately takes a look at the demolition of the Old Oak Bridge, which saw a part of the N1 highway closed over the weekend.

After initial warnings indicated that the Old Oak to R300 stage of the N1 would be closed until Monday 5AM, demolition workers did very well to finish the job by Sunday.

An engineer working for Western Cape government explained the bridge needed to be demolished to make way for additional lanes.

The bridge at the Old Oak turn off, which was built in 1963, was demolished on Friday evening.
